Seema Khan
Seema is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Study House Tutoring. Education, Freedom of Expression, and Peace are her Passion.
Originally from India she first came to North America in 1991 when she arrived in the US to pursue a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Processes. She arrived in the US with $20(!) in her pocket and a dream. She was able to complete her Master's degree thanks to research grants available through the US Department of Energy. Her Master's thesis was on cleaning ultra-fine coal to reduce toxic emissions during combustion.
In 1995 Seema moved to Canada where she made her debut in the Aerospace Industry as a Senior Designer designing flight control units for flight decks of commercial and fighter planes. This very rewarding career was cut short by the dastardly attacks of September 11 2001 which permanently changed the course of her career.
In 2002 she launched Study House with the vision to reach out to the global population of children. Having lived in the midst of people consumed with their single minded focus on religion she is convinced that the lack of access to affordable education is the primary reason for global conflict. Poor education breeds poor communication, which in turn leads to conflict in the home and globally.
This unwavering belief in the uniting power of education has led to another important milestone - the launch of Study House's On line Tutoring Service. She is passionately involved in the development of a low-cost model that may be easily duplicated. Her vision is to engage every unemployed teacher in North America in the "Race to The Top" Initiative - locally and globally - all from the safe haven of their own home.
She hopes that with this model she will be able to make a contribution to ensuring that no child is left behind, that generations of people trapped in time-warps of religious ideologies can be taught to dream - a dream of giving their children some education. She strongly believes that this slow but steady shift in mentalities will ultimately allow us all to leave our children the inheritance of a peaceful world.
